Well-known Mohawk language teacher, Dorothy Lazore presents ways to incorporate Total Physical Response and other teaching strategies into language programs for all ages. hide Dorothy Lazore Dorothy Ann Lazore has been involved in teaching for 40 years. She has a Bachelor of Education degree and a certificate in language teaching. Dorothy has experience in teaching in both English classrooms and in Mohawk immersion schools. He has worked in the field of education as teacher, administrator, and counselor for many years. Billy Extension Activities for TPR: Games, Songs, and Activities - Janice E. Billy Prepare to move, groove, and have some fun! In this energetic workshop, Chief Atahm School immersion teacher Janice Billy links language learning to whole body learning. She will demonstrate how to connect TPR to other forms of learning. hide Janice E. Billy Janice's focus in on early primary language programs and adult begin- ner courses. Janice has been an immersion teacher for over 12 years and has worked with all ages of students. Janice is adept at creating lesson ideas from familiar themes. Janice teaches the C.A.S. T.P.R. She brings a lot of enthusiasm to the classroom and to her workshop presentations. hide	1D Siseyse: Early Childhood Language Website & Puppet Show CAS Curriculum Team Siseyse: Early Childhood Language Website & Puppet Show - CAS Curriculum Team This workshop highlights the creative work from the Chief Atahm School curriculum team. The newly designed early childhood language learning website and puppet show series will be presented. The puppeteers and web designers will be on hand to display their talents. hide CAS Curriculum Team Kathryn Michel - curriculum coordinator, script writer, editor, voices (see bio in program) Cwell Michel - web designer; Cweth Michel is a Secwepemc website developer whose professional experience dates back to the mid nineties. He studied Art at Langara College for a year, before switching majors and schools to Computer Sci- ence at Athabasca University. Cweth is fluent in Java Html PHP and python; however, his learning of his native Secwepemctsin is still a work in progress. Ada Jules - sound and video production, voices. Ada is a Secwepemc Language Curriculum Technician who is a for- mer student at Chief Atahm School. She Brings her a strong background in language and culture and combines it with her training in multimedia. Sarah Michel - puppet creator, design and illustration Anne Michel - elder, script creator, voices. The Language Specialist at Chief Atahm School. Creates, translates, and adepts all types of Curriculum resoruces. Tekawus Armitage - sound production, voices. Tekawus is a 4th year Arts student at UVIC and a former student at Chief Atahm School. He assists during his school breaks with audio recording and video productions. Lawrence Michel - elder, script, voices. Session 3 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm	3A University of Hawaii Language Immersion Ho'okulaiwi: 'Aha Ho'ona'auao 'Oiwi Ua Lawa Makou i ka Pohaku: University of Hawaii Language Immersion Program - Ho'okulaiwi: ‘Aha Ho'ona'auao ‘Oiwi This panel of Hawaiian educators will discuss the initiatives at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. The Kula Kaiapuni Hawai'i program supports and retains teachers in the Hawaiian Language Immersion Program. Special attention will be given to what worked and what didn't work for students and strategies for improving existing structures. hide Ho'okulaiwi: ‘Aha Ho'ona'auao ‘Oiwi The Hawaiian delegates are associated with Ho'okulaiwi: ‘Aha Ho'ona'auao ‘Oiwi, a multifaceted teacher education and curriculum research initiative designed to raise the educational achievement of Native Hawaiians. The SPINS for Stories pilot project, using simple stories to assess oral fluency in language students will be shared. hide Dr. Jack Miller Dr. Jack Miller has been a faculty member of the School of Education, Thompson Rivers University since 2001. His research interests include language assessment and evaluation, First Nations language curriculum development, and First Nations language revitalization. The title of his doctoral dissertation, completed in 2004, is Assessing First Nations Language Proficiency. Jack is currently the Dean of the School of Education. hide Stacey Michel Stacey has been the nursery/ kindergarten immersion instructor for the past five years. She has many enthusi- astic ideas for creative play in the classroom. Stacey invites everyone to explore their creative side while maintaining a language environment. hide	3D Use Today's Technology to Create Language Resources Mike Willie Use Today's Technology to Create Language Resources - Mike Willie Learn how to create language learning CDs using audio recorders and computers. You will gain basic knowledge about how to record Elders/fluent speakers and then import the files into the computer for basic editing. Participants will learn how to upload sound files and do basic editing for CD creation and distribution. Use of iPods and iPads are also discussed. hide Mike Willie Mike Willie is originally from Kingcome Inlet and is a member of the Musgamakw Dzawada'enuxw First Nation. He has previously taught linguistics for the University of Victoria and was involved in creating the Kwa'walala Gaxan Language Learning CD series. His current work involves cultural and language revitalization at the Gwa'sala-'Nak'waxda'xw School at the Tsuquate Reserve in Port Hardy, B.C. He works with youth and Elders to promote technology as a tool for gathering and creating language resources to enhance listening and speaking of traditional languages. hide
